On September 18, 2014, mayors across the country joined forces with local Blessings in a Backpack volunteers in packing bags full of food for children as part of “Blessings in a Backpack Day.” Events were held across more than 20 states in 55 different cities as part of a national movement to address childhood hunger after the U.S. Conference of Mayors passed a resolution in June declaring Thursday, September 18, 2014 “Blessings in a Backpack Day.
